The Municipal Department of Foloi is a semi-mountainous and mountainous area of the Municipality of Ancient Olympia, named after the famous oak forest, which is the main feature of the area. It consists of nine Communities, Lala, which is the seat of Department of Foloi, and hosts the municipal building (former City Hall). The communities of Achladini, Douka, Koumani, Milies, Nemouta, Neraida, Persaina and Foloi are also part of Foloi Department. In the period 1999-2010 it was a Municipality of the prefecture of Ilia that was established by the “Kapodistrias” program and the merging of the aforementioned older communities of the area, which later on became the municipal districts of the municipality. With the implementation of the “Kallikratis” program in 2010, it was abolished and joined the new Municipality of Ancient Olympia.
